The cost of having troops in Iraq - A letter to the
American public Denmark is a small nation which has a population of 5 million people.
Despite our small population we have been active in several countries in
peace missions.
Now we have been face with the threat of another nation which wants to
take over some of our land. Canada is prepared to invade a small island
near Greenland.
Now we are paying the price of our support to your conflict in Iraq. We
can not defend our selves as our troops are spread out over the world
fighting against terrorism.
The Danish population is chocked but also a little surprised. We do know
little about Canada motives for their aggression but have noticed that
the aggression could be related to the fact that some part of Canada
wants independence because they are speaking some primitive language.
Perhaps it is al about concealing some internally problem but we should
not be the victim of some domestic politics.
We do know that Greenland is on the road to become an independent
nation. We have installed the alcoholic government ourselves. But more
than 400 years of Danish role over Greenland gives us some sense of
responsibility regarding the outcome of the process.
We do feel trapped. A lot of nations are freebies when it comes to the
problem of helping Iraq towards democracy. Perhaps that is why they can
spare troops so they can invade our territory.
